 Lake County’s total area is covered with 48% forest. We are home to both the Manistee National Forest and the Pere Marquette State Forest. They, and wooded private land, are home to deer, turkey, bear, squirrel, rabbit, grouse and a variety of other animals and birds. Each year, archery and gun hunters try their luck at harvesting game for their freezer. The Manistee National Forest Field Office (231) 745-4631 and the Michigan Department of Recreation Field Office (231) 745-4651 are located in Lake County.
