The Pere Marquette River and the Pine River, both designated as National Wild and Scenic rivers, offer some of the best canoeing, kayaking, rafting, and tubing, anywhere! Whether you want to take a leisurely scenic trip or are avid white river enthusiasts, Lake County paddling is the perfect place to come. Both rivers flow through the scenic Manistee National Forest. The Pine River, considered by many as the premier canoeing river in Michigan, has an average gradient of 12 feet/mile. The 16 mile stretch of the Pine River between Edgetts and Lincoln Bridge is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. The Pere Marquette is better suited for beginners and those wanting a less strenuous/more relaxing adventure. With a gradient of 4 feet/mile, there are some light rapids but most of the waters are moderate and easy to navigate.
Lake County has several family-owned and operated boat liveries providing canoe, kayak and raft rental as well as organized trips. Campgrounds, both private-owned and public, are located along the rivers or close-by, offering a wide range of camping opportunities. Canoes kayaks and rafts. Offering trips from three hours to four days. We provide transportation to and from the river. We also do car spotting.
