Winter Sports
Snowmobiling, cross country skiing, dog sledding, snow shoeing or just plain old fashioned hill sledding….winter in Lake County is GREAT!
Our snowmobile trails are groomed to perfection. The Trail Riders Snowmobile Association and the Iron’s Tourist Association groom over 300 plus miles of snowmobile trails that connect to other trails in surrounding counties. Both of these web sites have excellent information on trail conditions, staging area locations, as well as maps. Most of the trails are located within the Manistee National Forest or just east of Irons. Many of our trails connect to other county trail systems that venture as far north as the Upper Peninsula! Snowmobiling on roads is also permissible in Lake County.
Dog sledding activities are also very popular in Lake County. The 24 mile Sweetwater Challenge Trail race in the Manistee National Forest, sponsored by the Michigan Dog Drivers Association (MIDD), takes place each winter in our County.
To see a map of the trail, visit the MIDD website: www. michigandogdrivers.org.
